5 Signs That Your Spouse May Be Cheating
The divorce rate in the UK is the lowest that it has been in 40 years. But sadly, 42 percent of marriages still end in divorce. The factors that lead to divorce vary widely, but one of the most common causes is when one partner has sexual intercourse with a person who is not their spouse. In marriage, this is known as adultery.
If you suspect that your spouse may be cheating, you may be tempted to call it quits right away. But it’s a good idea to make sure that your suspicions are more than just that before you call up a process server to serve divorce papers. If you’re wondering how to tell if your spouse is cheating on you, check out these five not so obvious signs.
1. Secretive Mobile Phone Habits
If your spouse is having an affair, it’s likely that he or she is communicating with the person that they are cheating with through their mobile phone. Pay attention to your spouse’s mobile phone habits. Were they previously very relaxed with their phone, and suddenly avoid allowing you to see it at all costs? Or do they frequently have to step out of the room to take calls when they never did so in the past?
Until you are certain that something is going on, it may be best to avoid snooping through your spouse’s phone, looking for calls or texts that may hint or confirm an affair. If your suspicions are wrong, you may end up further harming your relationship due to lack of trust in your spouse. Monitor their phone usage if you suspect something is not right, but be absolutely certain before confronting the situation.
2. Changes in Physical Appearance
Think about how you tried to dress or look when you were dating someone new, before you were married. If you notice that your spouse is suddenly taking an interest in how he or she looks, or is dressing very differently than they usually do, it could be a sign that they are cheating.
3. Changes to Their Social Media Profiles
The way that they dress likely won’t be the only change that a cheating spouse makes. Changes to a social media profile can also indicate cheating. Pay attention to whether your spouse hides their “relationship status” so that those looking at his page can’t tell whether he is single or not. Other changes may include new profile pictures that don’t include you, or even deleting pictures that show the two of you together, to make it look as though your spouse is single.
4. Frequent Password changes
If your spouse is cheating, and he or she isn’t communicating with the person that they are having an affair with through their cell phone, they might be using social media or email instead. This can be a tough one for you to track if you and your spouse don’t share passwords. But if you do know his or her passwords, check to see whether they’ve changed them often. If so, it could be a sign that they are trying to hide something from you.
5. Increase in Gift-Giving
If your spouse is cheating, they may try to ease the guilt that they are feeling by being more affectionate towards you. An increase in gift giving, especially if you and your spouse weren’t the type to exchange gifts at random in the past, could be a sign that your spouse is feeling guilty.
Any of these signs could mean that your spouse is cheating. However, it’s a good idea to be sure before you call a process server to serve divorce papers for you. If your relationship is already suffering, making your spouse believe that you don’t trust them can make things even worse, especially if you make the wrong call.
